Bottom end of Banshee
#1
OK, I'm getting a Banshee soon and I nkow that they have bad bottom end power. So, what are some effective ways to get more bottom end.... without changing the gearing because I don't really want to lose my top speed either. How good would a boost bottle and K&N filter do? would it help noticably? One of my buddies told me this and I don't know if he was joking or not but he said it may help if you take off the 2 carbs and get one big one on there. Would that work? any help or ideas appreciated? thanks

The best/easiest/cheapest thing to do to improve bottom end on a mostly stock banshee, would be to raise the compression (shave the head a bit). If you shave the head .030" that is a good start and you can still run plain premium fuel. If you shave the head .060" or .080" you will need to run racing fuel (DO NOT run Aviation fuel... too much alcohol) or a 50/50 mix of racing fuel and premium. If you shave the head, change over to a K&N, rejet, and get pipes (these will make the biggest difference, both on bottom and top end - pipes will affect top end more though).
The next thing would be to run a timing key that advances your timing, no more than 4 degrees, and this also has a huge effect on bottom end, and I hear makes a big difference (this is next in line for me).
After that, port your cylinders, bigger carbs, V-Force reeds, etc., etc.
Check out LRD Performances web site, they have a great write up on how much horsepower and where the differences can be felt.
Good luck,
Dean

It was already on my bike, along with reed spacers (both are supposed to help throttle response). To be honest, I have heard from alot of people that both of these mods really make next to no noticeable difference.
I can't say from personal experience, just from what I have heard/read. I can say, however, that the pipes compression, etc., really made a huge difference. I raced a guy with a stock banshee last weekend, up a sand hill, and it wasn't even a contest.
Take care,
Dean

the best thing you could do for more bottom end on a banshee is get a trinity 2 into 1 carb kit. i had one on my banshee and it was the best thing i ever bought for it. twin carbs will out run it on very top end but the trade off is more than worth it.
