Is something wrong with my Kodiak?
#1
I have a stock 2001 Kodiak that has 600 miles on it. Two weeks ago I finally got the chance to open it up and see just how fast it would go. I took the kids on 4-wheeler trip to Lewis County New York. Great trail system. Anyway, I could only get it to go 45MPH. At least that's what the speedo said. I thought the Kodiak was supposed to go over 50MPH. By the way, I weigh 215 lb.
How fast are other Kodiaks out there?
Thanks in advance,
Al
2001 Kodiak
2001 Blaster (for the older son)
2001 LT-80 (for the little guy)
2001 Toyota Double Cab (to haul it all)

I thought that these machines were broken in after about 10 hours. I think I might need a tune up or something. Also, are there any mods that can be added to help with take off. It has an anoying delay when you punch the gas.
Thanks,
Al

sounds like it might need a little tweaking. I have not had to touch mine, so probably not much help. As far as a hesitation, or delay, I have never experienced that. Actually, mine is quicker off the line than my 00 Grizz, but only for a very short while! btw, I run in the cold and have synthetic mobil in the crankcase and diffs.

Check your owners manual for a Speed Limiter screw on the throttle lever housing. Screw with a lock nut. I just bought an '03 Kodiak 450 and the manual states this can be .47 inches out for maximum speed. More than .47 will stretch the throttle cable. Hope this helps.

My 02 Kodiak is only giving me about 45 now. I got my belt wet and my top end speed changed from 50 to 45. Is there anything I should check. I took the belt cover off and it was dry with NO mud anywhere. Should I spray some kind of a break cleaner on it or something?

silly question...
how far into the mountains were you? High up? Bike might not have been running as well as it could have been down at sea level.
my car is sensitive when I change elevations when I Race that. I havnt taken my raptor up high but its just and idea.
also your valves might be tight. you get more down low with tight valves but lose up top and vice versa. again not a lot but u never know. what gas etc...IC ould name a lot that might make it fluctuate. put more air in your tires and try again too...
