YFM 100 Champ Shaft drive - Noise Help
#1
I just picked up a '90 Yamaha YFM 100 Champ. When I shift gears it makes a squeaky rattling noise. It sounds like a metal on metal rattling sound.
When I bought it I thought it was a suspension noise - like a bushing was bad or something was dry metal hitting together, possibly wheel bearings. It is not.
If it is running in neutral. There is no noise. I can pick it up and drop it, wiggle it, push it forward and back, no noise. As soon as I put it in gear the rattling sqeaky noise begins.
Is this a bad clutch pack? Is that serious? I'm not a great mechanic. Can it be done by a novice? Could it be the shaft drive? It sounds more like it's coming from inside the engine.
Any help? Please!
