Default Strokers Bad?

First thing first, if you get your crank stroked and up the displacment do you have to change cam and or piston?
Second part od this question is, how reliable are they. Everyone says they blow up and fall apart and such but I dont see the people using them complaining. Im thinking next semester when I get a lil more dough it would be cool to get my crank stroked to 426. Do you have to run a long rod and shortened piston? or use cylinder spacers. All this stroker stuff confuses me . Maybe the 649 dollar kits comes with all the stuff but then I still dont know about reliability. I want to be able to ride atleast every other week and not have to rebuild for atleast 3 years.

Plan B is to buy an ATC250r and set it up for pure drag racing to settle any disputes I have with people

No one owns a stroker and cares to defend their reliability? Arent 686 and 690 kits strokers or just big bore? I know 720 or what ever is a stroker.

You can do many different types of stroker engines. You can increase stroke and shorten the rod to use the same piston pin height, or you can use the same rod and move the wrist pin upward. On some engines, you can stroke, increase rod length over stock, and move the pin up extremely far. Depending on which way you do it, you can increase or decrease dependability. You don't HAVE to change your cam, but if you build a stroker you will want portwork and a cam to match the increased flow. Plus, since you will be changing the linear speed of the piston, you will want a cam duration to match it. My suggestion is have an experience engine builder do it for you. You can have just as much money in a motor you try to build yourself and not make any power do to mismatched pieces.

I think ill just leave it alone since id have to get new porting and cam. I was looking at having mickey dunlap do it but theres not much I could do with a 50hp warrior that I couldnt do with with a 30 hp one since I only ride in the woods. Of course if it werent so complicated and expensive and if I hadnt just dumped all my money in to making it faster as a 350 I would seriously consider it just because im a speed freak. I probably would have bought it to begin with but somone told me they saw one at the dunes rev up and blow up. Maybe 4 or 5 years down the road when im needing a new piston a new sleeve ill do that. But by then im guessing ill be driving something else any my wife (hope I have one in 5 years ) can drive the warrior. Gosh that 500 kit just looks so awesome though, lol.

If you are that concerned with speed, i would think of upgrading the quad. used 400ex's can be found for dirt cheap in most places. Warriors are nice, and if you have an old one, you can drive it underwater, as long as you keep the air hose for the gas tank above water. if you are ready to drop that kind of money into your warrior, think about a different quad. as you said, a fast engine wont do much if its broken down. There are a lot of things that can go wrong with do it yourself kits, so if you have it done, send it out. JMO

Jackal, I wasn't going to say it earlier, but since you formed you own opinion here goes. I sunk a **** load of money into the engine in my 250x. For about $200 less, I built a banshee engine that the 250x will never think of touching. Your warrior will be the same way. Trust me.
