warrior knocking from transmission
#1
this is the first time i have had any trouble of this kind from any vehicle
ok... i am going to try to explaine this in the best possible way
there are a few symptoms when in neutral, there is a steady knock sound from the rear of the transmission
this knock doesnt go away when the clutch is pulled, the strange part is that when the quad is put into gear, with the clutch still dissengaged, the knocking goes away, once the clutch is engaged, the knocking is present. the knocking is also present in reverse when the clutch is not pulled, just like the foreward gears.
this is a bone stock 2000 warrior
any help will be well appreciated

I would think something was wrong if my warrior wasnt knocking or making some strange noise. Of course my engine shop says "ride it till she blows" I wonder why...... I spend more time trying to intrepret noises my warrior makes than actually riding. Not to say nothing is wrong with yours. Mine makes a knocking from the front of the tranny. Just so hard to tell when there is something wrong because they get so noisy with age. (atleast mine). Warrior engines may last for ever but youd never think it when you hear one older than a year or two running.

Well you have to consider that if something is knocking two pieces are hitting together, could this be because of a bad bearing, something vibrating, something loose, who knows but eventually stuff gets torn up when its beating on something. All i can think of off hand is to see if it does it when reverse is engaged. If it dosent then your not coming all the way out of reverse and the gears are beating together. or bouncing off each other. Mine does that sometimes when i dont get it completely out of reverse but it usualy either goes one way or the other and sticks. In other words play around with reverse and see if it gets fixed or maybe you can diagnose it.

I had the same problem when my 2000 warrior was about 1 hour old. It sucked the reverse gear stuck because yamaha forgot to pack the bearing inside it. They covered it but they had to split the motor cost was $700.00 not to scare you but this is what was wrong with mine. I noticed that it still does it sometimes in reverse, no big deal. my brother races motorcycles and he said never buy a yamaha, I didnt listen. Junk Junk Junk. There is so many noises who knows. I own six motorcycles. I have to say nothing wrong with any of them, sell the yamaha and buy the new Z400 or Kaws 400. I was selling mine but would feelguilty selling a yamaha to anyone. Still have the warranty . Good Luck Junk Junk Junk.......

Are you sure your reverse shifter is adjusted right? Sounds like the linkage on the reverse lever needs to be adjusted so it goes full forward and reverse, like it's getting hung up. Sometimes mine will make a knocking sound, because it's not fully engaged.

just an update, it turns out that the clutch basket broke , at first everything was fine riding with it,(before i knew that it was broken) but eventually the rear end would lock up. for some reason, the bolts in the basket worked there way out and caused the noise witch in turn locked the bike up
