The dealer mechanics hate dealing with jetting your bike as much as you do, and they usually set you up to rich in order to cover thier behind...until you find an umpa lumpa capable of doing it suck it up and swallow hard.

Do you really think this will be the last time you have to rejet? EGT can be removed when not in use. But If you get a good one dig. with a tach you can always check to see what rpm you are running rich or lean at. Most have memeroy playback of some sort now days make your run then take a look at EGT and rpms and tune. The fastest is not always who spends the most but who tunes the most. (guess thats why im one of the slower ones).

Sporty are you saying that you can remove them from the head pipes? If you can remove them I might have to consider this. I really like the egt's but they are so expensive.

ward,
I spent my entire 2001 NEATV-MX race season jetting my raptor...guess what at the last race of the season i finally got it right. Only problem is i was not use to the untapped power i have now and coming outta the gate i am fine..but when i hit third gear the damn front end pulls this slow motion wheelie that i can control....hehe.....i love having that problem.....i am so quick now at doing jetting changes...i can pull all the plastic, the air box, the carbs,,rejett and put everything back together in 20 minutes now.....such a great achievement....hehehehe.....anywho.........do it yourself...their is nothing more rewarding to a rider then to get the jetting perfect.......goodluck....and be patient........everyone has a quick raptor...but only a few have "fast" raptors........i being one of them...hehehehehehe..

herbdon out.........

besides, this is one thing you can blindly screw around with and not tear anything up. well, besides that whole too lean thing. lmao. knowledge is power. so when your buddies need jetting you can charge them. hehe. plus on that fateful day when all the planets line up and you realize that you have achieved perpetual jetting perfection (pjp) and hand someone's a$$ to them in a race you normally wouldn't do so good in: you will have arrived; grasshopper.

Somone should develop a sliding air filter that changes its size and has measurments on it that you can start to develop a ratios with so you know how to jet your quad after every mod.

I was having some problems switching mine back to gas from alcohol, but I fiddled with it today and by george I think I have it.

I have the yoshi complete exhaust, gyrt-k&n filter/adapter plate setup, stock airbox with lid and snorkel(took out the damn divider in the snorkel/ lid snorkel) 160/165 mains, pilots=? (custom filing)(up one size from stock would probably be close), on the needles have the little plastic washer with the clips on the second from the top notch(needles almost all the way down), and air screws 1 1/2 out. Now this may not be the best for everyone, but after trying a zillion different combos today, this seemed to produce the most linear and consistent response, without any hiccups, or sputters from idle on out. The air box lid doesn't have any holes in it either.

Now a question from me....???? It seemed that when I put the lid back on the box, it made the thing louder(I swear it did). Why would this be?

Thats the funny thing about jetting, your set-up, carb wise, is so far off from mine its not even funny. 180/175 mains, stock needles in the fourth clip from the top, 27.5 pilots, and around 2.5-2.75 turns on the screws. I use twin K&Ns and a full FMF PCIV pipe. Mine is great and I am sure yours is too, just makes me laugh.

Louder huh????? seems backwards

Miss and LA both have very dense air. Dunno about where he lives but our humidty stays near 100% and we are very low. Walk outside and it feels like you are walking into a wet blanket. Sux bad in all other ways but it does make engines make more power I think.
