Airbox mod Question
#1
I have been looking at all the posts about people drilling holes in the airbox lid on their atv. I've also herd about many ways to do it. One ways is 2 3"inch holes in the lid and 3 1" inch holes in the lid and 1 4" inch hole. So I was wondering which is the best for a factory 2001 warrior. Also, When you drilled them did you experience a difference in the way it performs if so where, top end, low end, or just all around?
Another thing I was going to ask is, I am going to buy a exhaust system for my Warrior, I was thinking about going with the White Brothers E series and a FMF Powerbomb head pipe. I was wanting to know what you thought about this rig up. Just let me know and thanks for all the info.

Austin, try and find a picture of the Poweroll airbox lid for reference. I bought a new lid and modded mine like it. Basically 2 oval holes about 1 inch wide by 3 inches long to the right side/brake side of the filter. Opening up the airbox without any other mods I doubt you will "feel" any difference.
I have no experience really with the pipes you mention. Don't think you could go wrong with the E-series, and I believe it sounds better. I've also read that the factory head pipe actually flows really well and is hard to beat.
The combination of opening up the airbox and an aftermarket pipe are probably the first performance mods to do with the Warrior. You will need to re-jett your carb or you will probably have a lean air/fuel mixture.

How you cut your lid really dosent matter. I cut mine into a T shape, all that I left is the part the holds the filter in, a section running down the middle to keep my filter from jumping around, and the part on the end to where the screw holes are just to keep it all secure. After a certain point it really dosent matter any more because its already getting as much air as it can, once your past that point its all good.

The reason people cut a 1" hole is so that can use 1" Uni-Vents in the holes to cut down the turbulance and let less dirt in.

Austin...mine is an "'02 Warrior. The stock head pipe is fine...didn't touch that, but I did put the White Bros E-Series on, seems to be a good setup to me. They ARE a little loud. I'm running 12 plates on there now, and that is tolerable. I had 18 on for a while, but my ears rang after a day of riding. Like Jakal says, I really don't think it makes too much of a difference what shape or how many holes or slits are in your air box lid, of course, the more holes--the more air. Mine looks like I took a .12 gauge shotgun to it. It's full of 3/4" holes. I just tried to be careful to leave those little plastic support cross bars on the bottom side intact....no particular reason, just for support, I guess. I did it at the same time I put my DynoJet kit and ProFlow on, though, so I have no experience regarding performance with just holes in the airbox. Depending on how far you open your box up, you may need to adjust your air/fuel mixture screw a tad after that, maybe not. You'll know when you get there.
Good luck!
