Contact eraptoid, I think he gave around $500 for the whole gearset.

Moose hit the nail on the head, the dogs edges are rounded off, as are the edges of the slots on the gear it mates with.
I had the same thing with mine and I put an 02 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and reverse in my 01 about a month ago. The ratios are much better. Here is a list of the parts/prices were I bought mine, www.lakehillmotors.com Talk to Brent.

sounds like the tranny blew....STOP running it. if it didn't lock up the trans completly you have pieces loating through your motor. when it is apart examine every gear , including behind clutch basket, anything with the slightest knick should be replaced. to update to the 02 trans you need more than the individual gear however it is worth it in the end...replace it right ONE time...any questions let me know I just did the same dance.

I don't think his tranny "blew". It is a fairly common problem with the transmission if the gear dogs were not fully engaged, especially repeated times under a load. I agree, he needs to stop riding immediately, but what is floating around in the oil is probably miniscule compared to an entire gear dog.
