I am considering getting a Ford F150 soon for a toy hauler. has anyone had any experience with these trucks (v8 4x4) model? How is the gas millege different from the v6 in these trucks to the v8 in these trucks? is the difference very significant...And how is the 4 wheel drive on these trucks, does it cost alot to maintain in the long run..
I am looking at an 97 and newer F150...

thanks for your input

I got a v-6 f-150 and my grandpa a v-8......The gas mileage diffrence isnt that great, but all the driving around here is highway, you can notice a diffrence in city driving though with a lot of stop and go driving, the v-8 just sucks it more.....

That all depends, the v-8 is faster in all conditions hands down, but doesnt blow it away......Most people i know who got the 4.6 liter v-8 have not been satisfied with the power and they would tell me to tell you to get the 5.4 if your conserned with speed.....So basically when you punch the gas on the v-6 itll get goin pretty ok,punch the v-8 and youll burnout big time.....

If you want a fast(for a truck),good truck, consider getting a ranger edge...they are great,my uncle has one it is very fast for a truck ,i think it has like 220 horspower a lot for a little truck and its plenty big to haul your stuff in.....the best thing is their dirt cheap for what you get!

I have a 98 F-150 4x4 Supercab. Get the 260 hp Triton V-8 5.4 litre.. Mid 98 is when the Triton's went from 235hp to 260hp. You'll get around 17 on the highway if you're not a leadfoot. Towing a trailer w/ two quads it'll drop by three mpg or so.. I have an Automatic XLT w/ Leather and power sliding rear window..

I have an '01 4x4 with the 4.6. I don't get but about 11 MPG but 90% of my time driving is on oil feild lease roads, all stop and go. Power wise I think its pretty good but don't be scared to turn on it. The motor doesn't seem to have the torque of other v-8s I have had expeirance with, but it does have alot of upper RPM power. I just get a little leary of turning it that high, since it is a Ford.J/K BTW mine is a work truck so its free, gas, maintance, insurance, etc. I haven't had any problems with it other than losing one high beam one night and a low beam the next.

I have an '02 V8 and the tires spin and spin and spin... I don't take it offroad much becuase I always end up doing expensive damage... I get crazy sometimes...

With gas prices these days youre gonna be paying a junkload to fill it up anyways.... Go with the V8!
