before i bought my bike i rode my friends 2002 400ex all the time for like a year, very nice bike for the price and for smaller peolpe. i would not suggest getting a raptor unless you can toss your 400 around like a paper weight. after i bought my rap the 400 was just lame to ride. my friend always wants to ride my rap but i dont want to switch back to the 400. yes a raptor even stock will come up very fast, even if your on the gas tank and let the rpms down to the point where it almost stalls in first and hammer it the front will be staight in the air and almost flipping over in under a second. i like everything about my bike better then the 400ex, inless you ride mx all the time and cant widen the rap there is no reason to hold back. no the rap is not tippy, yes it is alittle less stable then the 400 but in no way tippy if you ride it right. if you up the front preload all the way and air the tires up to 5-8 psi it will hanlde much better. the stock tires is what gives it the tippy feeling, they have very soft side walls and way to much traction and grab around turn way to hard if the psi is under 4. i can spank my friends 400 in any condition, if you drag on the road with a rap it will not do to well but put it on dirt and you will run much faster, my friends 400 with a pipe can kinda hang with me on the road with his 90 pound brother riding it but on the dirt its twice as fast. i am 19 6'tall 200 pds and bench 280 and the raps power is a hand full on the trails. please dont judge the bike from the reacent shootouts in dirtwheels, the rap can be ridden faster woods and mx then the z and ex and this was proven by pros in time trials. mybe you should go buy a Z i here they are faster then raptors even on hills, and its 20times better then every quad ever made, and we all know that susuckies last longer then everything esle, in case you cant tell im talkin out my *** like all the z riders do. dont think about it just go buy it you will never look back.

 

no its not tippy and if its not stable enought get a longer axle or lower it
it has way more power

Raptors are real quick quads I like em alot and if you get one the first thing you should do is get a pipe. From what I have seen and heard the stock pipe is to restrictive and holds some power back. A friend of mine got a slip on and it really improved the power. Shaneb I would rather get the raptor and put 1000 into that but if you like the 400 stay with it.

 

Just get it done and buy a raptor, I think you already know it will be the better choice.

There is nothing wrong with the 400EX it's a nice quad, However.....................
The Raptor is soooooo much better in many ways!!
The 400Ex beats the Raptor in only one area, Handleing.

No quad is perfect for all things.
I put 1 1/2" per side wheel spacers on the back & it's much more stable. I can ride the rims of dunes all day long!!
I just got back from a woods trip & is was much more stable blasting through the woods too.
A 3" longer swing arm is next to keep the front end down in the dunes.
There is no replacement for power in the dunes (Where I do 90% of my riding). Sand sucks power bad!! You'll love the extra power the Raptor has.
Any quad with that much power will be a wheelie monster & is no place for the timid!!
If your new to quads you don't need thar kind of power to learn on but if your experianced you'll learn to control it quickly.

I was also a long time Honda guy, I had a 86 250R, I was waiting for the long rumored 600~650 EX, I waited & waited, The Raptor came out & I still waited, Finally when no new quads were announced for 2002 I got the Raptor & never looked back.

Screw Honda if they can't keep up, Don't listen to these people who say wait for the big Honda quad, Who knows when Honda will wake up from their coma & give us a big bore quad, just get a Raptor now.
If & when Honda comes out with new quad you'll be so in love with your Raptor you won't care!!!
