Busted quads can make anyone have a good day....

I was at Bull Gap in Mio today. It is cold and pretty much everything was covered in about an inch of snow. The hill was rutted to death and hard as granite, so I bumpy ride was in order. I hit the hill about 10 times, practicing my drag skills before next summer. My dad got all suited up and wanted to take it for a ride. He was at the bottom of the hill, with helmet on and all, and I go past him wanting another quick trip up the hill to show how fast I was getting. So I nail the gears like there is no tomarrow and fly up the hill by far the fastest I have ever gone. So of course, being bumpy as sh*t and me having a bad day, the chain decides to fly off. The engine immediatly cuts out and I come to the fastest stop known to man. I look down and see that the chain was bunched up on the sprocket and not in the case, thus not cracking it. I am thankful, and I get the chain all un wrapped from the sprocket thinking I can ride away clean. I go to the rear of the quad and the back is all messed up. The axle is on a massive angle with the right rear sticking out ALOT farther than the left rear. The sprocket is bent like a taco, and the huge bult that holds the swing arm to the axle carrier deciced to sheer off. By this time, my dad was walking up to me. But as I look over at him in disappointment, right as I glace at him he falls right on his *** from the ice. All of his 240 lbs hits the ground as hard as a rock. I feel the ground shake and start laughing as hard as possible. He gets back up, wipes himself off and is ready to look at the quad. He gets a good look at everything and notices the humor of the situation, and also starts laughing. He goes to bend down to get a better look at the carrier, and he smacks his over-sized helmet on the grab bar and leaves a nice gouge in it. By this time, he goes to get the van to tow me out of there. We both laughed and had fun on the way home making fun of eachother for our stupid mistakes. All in all, the trip was worth the big $ mistake and the broken quad.

No, it was plenty of fun.. I wish u would have gone. Riding alone isnt the funnest thing in the world. My dad is funding the fix anyways, so Im glad it broke now instead of when there was lots of people to ride with.

I know you were sweating it when you looked down and seen the chain wrapped around your front sprocket.
In most cases broken quad parts are costly cosider yourself one of the luck ones.

I think it's just cool getting out, riding and having a good laugh with the ole' man, I remember doing that on dirt bikes when I was younger (before quads were around). Sorry 'bout your ride, but still a good story.

hey warrior, I was hoping for a response like yours. I was wonderin if anyone could relate. No worries about the ride. Im not gonna be riding much in the next few weeks, so we are taking it over to my uncles with a huge pole barn to keep it heated and work on it. And yes, RSO, I was crapping myself when it happened. I was like "There goes the Banshee"..
