Well, I figured enough was enough, it was time to let this thing rip. I went riding with my brother today and we did a little drag racing.

He has a DS with all the good mods, pipe, filter mounted to the carb, 45 mm carb, cdi box etc. With our bikes setup with juist pipes, jets filters we would run pretty evenly in drags, the holeshot winner would win by a bike or so. Neither could pull on one another. He got his 45mm carb and he could beat me by 3-4 bikes on a regular basis.

Today was the day to see what the piston and cam did for me against a familiar foe. Setting was a dirt/gravel road about I'd guess 400' long.

1st race, we start off relatively even and I pull on him and I'm about 3 lengths or so ahead at the mark. I'm smiling and think cool. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] we swap sides and I only beat him by a bike or so. We do this back and forth a few times, similar results. One side of the road is softer than the other. We take off again and I get a bit squirly, he gets the jump and I can't real him in all the way. He wins by a bike or so. We each had our share of squirly starts. We raced at least 10 times, I believe I won 7 of those wasn't counting after a while, we could have raced more than 10 times. If I got close to even or better starts I would win, he'd get out in front a little almost every race and I could catch and pass almost everytime. He says that I would get in front and still pull a little on him until the mark.

We get back to where we parked at and I'm saying that I guess the piston and cam brought me back to even with him again and I was satisfied with that. We've gone back and forth with being faster since we were stock. Anyway, he broke down and said he put in a 11:5:1 piston a couple weeks ago. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/img] It all made since then. I should have beaten him by 3-4 lengths everytime but he has everything I have except cams. I'd suspect once he gets cams my edge will be lost again and I'll be forced to get the thing ported. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

Anyways, the cam and piston are a good upgrade and I'm pleased with it. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

Good revue. Sounds like you actually picked up about 5 or 6 bike lengths with the mods. That's great! Did you go 102mm or stock bore?

 

wshrdsn- you win, cams do not do much for the DS except irrate the owner.

Leave it to my brother to sneak one in there. I was hoping to guage exactly what I gained but I guess he couldn't stand being that much slower than me. It would have been nice to see the difference but, I can understand. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] Yes, I'd say 5-6 legnths over what I had. According to his trail tech speedo, we were hitting 75 MPH at the mark. We didn't measure off the footage but, being a football fan we were longer than 300' (100yards) like I said I was guessing 400' or so. Trail techs aren't perfect for MPH but if its calibrated right it'll be within a MPH or 2 imo.

You got that right six. Its realy my fault kinda. I tried sneaking in the Hotcam but then it tore my left exhuast valve apart (before they made the fix for them). So then he found out what I was trying. But as it turned out he had purchased the Carb before I did the cam but my mod went in first. A new valve and tranny later I am back up so its time to ride again. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

LOL. Sounds like a case of what comes around goes around. I did'nt think you could wait til after Xmas to let it rip.

I got me some more break in time during the week and we rode 3 hours today. The first hour and half or so cruising around. It had been long enough. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] All i need now is to haul azz up comp hill at dumont and see how it does. Today I thought if I went to a 40 tooth rear sprocket I could have pulled on him more than I was. Dirt roads is not where I want to do my best so I'll wait till the sand to judge the need for a sprocket change.
