Default 03 Grizzly leaks gas

I just bought a 03 Grizzly. After riding it the first time it drained gas from the carberator drain hose. My guess is that the float is stuck open in the bowl. Does anyone have any quick fix suggestions or will I need to bring it in to my dealer?

Thanks for any advise.

PS I love the Grizz, it's ride and power!!!

Turn your fuel off and open the bowl drain screw that is connected to that hose. After draining the bowl, close screw and turn your fuel back on. You haven't by chance pulled your gas tank off for any reason have you? If you did, its possible you could have pinched a vacuum line to the carb and that could cause the leak. I had the sameproblem with mine after I rejetted the carbs. I took it for a quick spin and put it back in my garage. Came back in there to do some more tinkering on it and saw a monster puddle of fuel under the bike and it was coming from the drain tube also. Im still not sure what caused it other than maybe too much vacuum in the carb that cause it to stick by chance. I did what was mentioned above and havent had any probs since. Let me know what happens with your machine.

I went to the Polaris/Yamaha dealer this morning looking at ( Polaris 400- 500 sport ) and (Yamaha 400 and the 450 kodiac). After spending an hour there the salesman talked me out of a Polaris, the more expensive one and told me his personal point of view. He likes the Yamaha. I really like the 450 Kodiac over the 400 kodiac mainly because the high low gear and the extra cc's. The salemsan brought up another good point. He said for a few hunded more, go with the Grizzley. ( I know he is the salesman ) He said it is the best four wheel drive atv ever built. The only thing that could be improved on the bike is fuel injection - and that is soon to come. Do you like yours ? Did you look at anything else ? And is it worth it the extra money ? What was your drive out ? Thanks.........

OK,

I tried shutting off the fuel and draining the carb bowl.... did not work. I called the dealer and his instructions where to shut the fuel off, drain the bowl and remove the fuel hose that feeds the carb, then blow air through it... gentley. That has seemed to do the trick. So far no leakage.

Thanks for the assistance.

Yeah, that should take care of the leak. I did forget to mention to make sure that hose was clear. (my goof). Glad you got your problem resolved.

JT,
personally, I love my Grizz. I also looked at the Kodiak, but I see it like this. There is no replacement for displacement! I have had a few minor problems with my 03 Grizz, but warranty covered all of that. Other that the few probs i have had, its a mean machine!

JTDavis,

I had a 2001 Yamaha Big Bear400 4X4. I bought my wife a 03 Kodiak 400 4X4 and traded my Big Bear for the Grizzly. I have about 5 hours on the Grizzly, and so far it completely blows the Big Bear out of the water across the board! The power is phenomenal and the ride is unbelieveable! I can easily climb hills where my big bear struggled before. The High, Low, in/out 4X4 are really a bonus for me after driving the big bear and the diff lock is a really great feature. The clearance is excellant.

A couple of things to improve.... More agressive tires, like on the Polaris machines. Too many panels to take off to get to maintenance points. But that's it so far! It was well worth the money!

I rode a 03 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO and it felt to high to me. Ride was as good as the Grizz, but the power was nowhere close, of course understanding that it was a 500. I did not try the Polaris 700.

I really don't think you can go wrong either way. You tend to adjust to the feel of the machine you buy and most of the time becomes the brand you stick to. The main thing is getting out on the trails, forgetting about work and having a great time with friends and family.

I like have a quad that is different than my freinds so that we have extra fun with the friendly jesting.

Happy hunting

Rich
