I certainly understand everyone's frustration over the original Raptor's transmission, but badmouthing them is just sour grapes. For every bad story, there are goods ones too. For instance, my son owned his blaster a total of 3 hours and hit a tree bending the chassis like a pretzel. Totally his fault.

Without asking, my dealer contacted Yamaha, and together they decided to replace the chassis gratis. On several other occasions I have always found that Yamaha was willing to go the extra mile... I can't over emphasize have a good relationship with your dealers... That also means that even though parts may cost a buck or two more than the cut rate guys, I buy from the dealer because I know I can trust him. I do admit that Yamaha missed the boat on the Tranny issue, but I don't think they will make the same mistake twice. Give them the benefit of the doubt before you bitch...

If you need to find a reputable dealer in the northern Virginia area, try Fredericksburg motorsports and talk to Monte or Rich.

I hate to say this Jackel dude, but somebody has already made a machine with the potential to top 50hp in a decent chassis. The Bombardier machine shares the same motor as the one lunger BMW. There are plenty of hop up kits in Europe that can push that motor way over 50 hp if people had the notion. And if your unlucky like me with a body way in excess of 6'4" and pushing 300 lbs, the larger size comes in handy....

You are correct though, quads instill less fear... At least on the surface... which is unfortunate, as anyone who has ridden both will tell you that they have their own set of problems. I never rode over my leg on a dirt bike and destroyed the knee... (note, I am waiting to have surgery on my knee for the second time in 15 years, as the joint has just plain worn out since they put it back together again.) I know I won't ride dirt bikes aver again... but at 47, I am not going to give up the quads either. I may have to sit on my duff most of the time when riding, but I ain't ready to roll over and die either...
