Time to Step it Up
#1
Hey guys,
In July of 2001, I bought a '02 Grizzly 660. Although its a fine machine I'd like something a bit sportier. Don't get me wrong, the the Grizz is just about the sportiest ultility out there, but I want PURE sport. :-) I've also got buddies with bikes that I would like to Ice Ride with. Its not very practical for me to get studded tires for the Grizz. Without studs, I can't keep up with them at all. Don't worry though, on the dirt, I can keep up pretty good. :-)
After owning the Grizz, Naturally my first thought when it came to a sport quad, was Yamaha. I love the power of my 660, and can't imangine it with 2 carbs and the other upgrades the raptor has. I also have a big Yamaha sticker in the back of my truck, and it would look pretty retarded if I I had some other bike in there. ;-) Oh yeah, the 03 LE Black Raptor is TIGHT! And that, would look kick *** sitting in the back of my Black Z71. Even if I didn't ride it, it would be worth the cool factor. :-)
My question is, will it suit me? Although I intend to mod it. I figure, after riding the Grizzly, it should make the transition to a taller machine a bit easier. My intended purposes will be trail riding, ice riding, ice racing (oval), casual mx, and maybe some mx racing, if I am any good. What mods are a must do for this mx and ice racing or just overall riding?? Will it still be trailable after I get some work done on it for MX or Ice Racing?
After riding my Grizz 1400+ miles, just sitting on a Raptor makes me feel about 8 feet tall. I am 6'4" (210lbs, and losing).. I assume there isn't much I can do about that except get used to not being enclosed by fenders.
Any other thougts or suggestions would be great! Thanks!

quadman, the raptor rips on the ice. go to my web site and check out the pics. 1000 1/2" studs, front durablue lowering kit and flip the linkage in the back and you'll have a killer on the ice. don't worry about them being tall. they handle great as far as i'm concerned.right now i'm 48" wide front and back.

Geocities SUCKS!
Your sight is over the allocated data transfer (read to many people went there) so we can't get it.. It sucks.
Big Daddy,
What kind of tires are you running on the ICE? What does the Durablue lowering kit go for? What is sufficent way to widen the stance? Are extended a-arms and a wider axle the only way to do it?
Thanks!

when you put the db lowing kit on it pushes the front tires out to about 48" wide. i have 9x9 wheels in the back w/ 3x6 offset (douglas 160) . i run a set of old razrs studded up 20's rear, 21's front. if i was serious i would go w/ 18" tires, but we race on the ice just for fun.
