Is it ok to run a k&n in the winter without and outerwear because iam gettin the filter but not the outerwear. I know i will end up getting one though. The ground is to hard for dust and sand debree so i should be ok right?

colder weather normally requires leaner jetting so just running the filter should be Ok assuming you have no other air flow improvements

I am running my raptor 02 with K&N air filter and 2 - 1 3\4 holes in air box lid and main jetting is at 157.5 and 162.5 in cold weather and it runs great, no problems to speak of, I do have the pro design outer wear and full yoshi exhaust did not touch the fuel mixture screws or needle just added jets. runs good.

Just spend the 15 for an outerwear. Its worth having just so you dont have to clean the filter all the time

I agree with Roostking. I had a couple of K&N's without the filter covers. I was digging leaves, bugs, etc out of the pleats of the filter and still couldn't get them clean. Now I run the water resistant Outerwear covers and I can run 4 races in dry sandy loam and still don't really need to clean my filters.
