OH YEA, I was using a Hot Cam stage 1 at first intake .004 a exhaust was .006. When I installed the Stage 2 cam I noticed the increase in valve clearance on intake and exhaust. Intake .007 and exhaust .010. When I first started the engine up boy there was a lot of valve train noise.
I called 14mins and asked him if the stage two cam usually makes a lot of noise. He said yes, and I left it as that. I have a lot of hard runs on my Raptor and still no problems.

.004-.006 hotcam stage 1?? The cam maker (Hotcams) says .008-.010 for the stage 1. I'm assuming you've had no problems running the stage 1 with this clearance? I have mine at .007-.009. Its a bit noisier than stock but not bad.

Yes I did say .004 to .006 with a stage one. No I never had any problems. I wanted more top end so I went with a stage two. It is what I wanted!

Ward, with the stage 1 I cannot tell ANY difference in sound on my bike - none!! I thought I would be able to tell a change also, but did not!

I ran the .008 and .010 with the stage one(recommended) and the valve noise was sooo bad I couldnt keep them that loose. All you could here was the valve rockers tapping 100 ft away. Thats has to wear the rockers and take away lift. I talked to some engine builders and they said to go down on the lash some. I also talked to Hotcams about it and they said as long as its checked regularly, it will not hurt to run less lash. I now run .005 and .006 and it runs great and sounds MUCH better too. Plus you get more valve lift.
The cam did help and I took my advance key out and put the cam in straight up it made a HUGE difference too!

I am running a stage II with .004 and .006 adjustments. I don't hear any valve noise over the stock cam.

The Stage I Hotcam sounds throatier when you hit the throttle & let her rip. I also noticed a ton of noise with the recommended valve lash & used .005/.008 instead & it sounded better. Not sure if it runs better but I feel better!

When I first installed a full Yosh exhaust & jetted the carbs, I had an exhaust fart that occurred a few secs after I turned off the ignition. I could not eliminate the problem with jetting/air box mods. A buddy of mine had the same problem with an HMF exhaust & same mods. Then I installed the Stage I Hotcam & 11:1 wiseco & the problem disappeared. So as far as the carbs not liking the valve overlap, I would say they like it! JMO
