Once again a topic we all know about, weak starter on the raptor. Installed a mod. broke it in and on the second ride (drag race) it happened. The starter however does not "free wheel" it sounds like the clutch is engauging and disengauging, fast....... then it engauges to allow engine to turn over. I did a search on the starter problem and found out that this is a common weak point. Is there any after market "stronger" starters out there?? What went on my starter?? Do I replace the entire thing? Thanks Y'all. (2002 model)

no it is not the whole starter you need. what you do need is the fly wheel gear and the one way bearing. go to www.rivayamaha.com they have a parts finder pull up your year and look under starter clutch.

Damage thanks for the riva web. I have one question, r u calling the 52 tooth gear (gear 3) the fly wheel gear?? This would be part number #5lp-15515-10-00 on riva's site. Found the one way bearing but not what u r calling the "fly wheel gear" thanks
