Does anyone ride in the U.P. MICH.

Hey, I lived there for 6 years, thats where I graduated Highschool from. I had several snowmobiles, dirtbikes, and 3 wheelers when I lived up there and the riding was great no matter what time of the year. There is an extensive trail network where you could travel miles, you could go from one town to another just by trails. I lived on K.I.Sawyer AFB (closed now) and we were able to ride to almost anywhere within a 25 mile radius from where I lived. There is a wide variety of riding from wide open trails to real tight trails, nice hillclimbs, and plenty of technical stuff if that is what you are looking for. Snowmobile industry is huge up there as everyone has a sled, so they take care of the trails pretty good.
I know this is some general info I am giving, if you have any specific questions just let me know.

Raptor, I haven't personally riden there but I heard it is great riding, if nothing else the scenery is beautiful. If you go to the DNR website (www.michigan.gov.dnr) you can download DNR trail maps, check out campgrounds/hotels, etc. I keep wanting to get up there but it never seems to work out.

I usually ride in the mid to higher end of the lower penninsula. its pretty awesome with tons of places to ride. there is a trail system called "Bull Gap," right at the front is a monster hill in the middle of no-where. tons of people drag racing, and people just riding around. there is tons, and tons of technical trails. like 8 feet tall bank turns, turns after turn anfter turn, hills, downhills, woops, jumps, anything and everything. and you can ride right into town and fill up, or just cruise around. and ther is a camp-ground in town, and whatever. we've been there a few times. i got pictures from there, im on the 3 wheeler, and 87banshee250sx is on the banshee.

GR8T250R is right, the best source for maps would be to go thru the DNR website for maps. You might also want to contact some of the local dealerships up there and ask them some questions about trail systems in the area. I know we use to do business with the Yamaha dealership outside Marquette, MI and the owner was always real helpful, I think his name was Rick. The weather during the summer is great up there, mid 70s during the day and getting down into the 50s at night, so it is ideal if you want to camp. Bring plenty of bug spray as the gnats and mosquittos are some of the biggest I have seen.
You might want to check into staying in Gwinn, MI this was the small town near the closed AFB, lodging will be very afforable and you will have miles upon miles of trails to choose from. Also that would put you about 20-25 miles outside of Marquette ,which is the largest city up there (population 30000-35000), so if you wanted to do something at night for entertainment you dont have far to go.
Let us know what you find out and later how the trip goes, I know you will like it.
