Warrior rear shock: Use a Raptor shock !!
#11
AKWarrior,
Sorry to hear about the 02 VS. 01 mismatch - unlike the Warrior, the Raptor has already had some basic changes that can bite ya. Another diff that I learned is that the 02 lower shock bushing is wider because in 02 they changed the linkage design slightly.
Turns out the 01 is the only "drop-in" replacement year....

I'm coming into this thread kinda late, but I'm having trouble with my '02 Warrior bottoming out (I think) on piddly little 3 foot jumps, and I only weigh about 160#. I'm farily new to ATV's, so I'm only guessing that I'm bottoming out, cause it's a fairly hard landing. I'm used to my old CR125, that you could drop off a cliff, and barely tell when you hit bottom. Am I just being too picky, or do I need a better shock?
I'm thinking that I probably just need a shock that has a compression adjustment. Does anyone here (still) have an '01 Raptor shock that is in really good condition that they'd like to sell me? I've looked on Ebay, but there aren't any for sale right now (tons of Banshee shocks though!).
Thanks in advance!

The stock Warrior shock has the compression, rebound and pre-load adjustment capability just like the Raptor shock (at least my 1990 did). The compression adjustment is on the resivor canister.
Before abandoning the stock warrior shock make sure youve properly adjusted it. It should be pretty fresh. As you mentioned, increase the compression and maybe add a little pre-load. Do one thing at a time and experiment.

Okay... I have the Warrior instruction manual that tells me that the screw on the bottom is a "damping adjustment screw" it doesn't say what *kind* of damping... it doesn't say anything about any other adjustment screws, escept preload, which I have already adjusted...
...And I have a Clymer repair manual that tells me that this screw is only a rebound adjustment. The Clymer manual doesn't say anything about a compression adjustment either...
Upon inspection of the rezzie, I can't find any adjustment screws...
Is it possible that Yamaha has recently made the screw on the bottom of the shock a compression adjustment, rather than a rebound adjustment? It doesn't really make sense to me to have a rebound adjustment without a compression adjustment anyway... Seems like the compression adjustment is the most important!

I stand corrected - sorry
I'm looking at the maunual now and I think you'll want to increase the damping by turning the screw clockwise. Test ride it over the same big bump after each change. If that doesnt work, try increasing the pre-load a bit (make the spring tighter) but not too much.

Hey guys,
I'm just curious to know if instead of raptor front shocks going on the front of the warrior, would banshee fronts work better, and fit? If so, would it be a good idea to put a '01 raptor rear shock and then front banshees on a warrior? Any help would be great, thanks.

On a blaster the Banshee shocks bolt right on, along with the LT250 shocks. I do believe the blaster A arms are shorter and smaller than the warrior's a arms eye to eye...so why would they be too long? The other thing, the 250r rear shock fits a blaster rear end with some slight mods, do you think it would fit a warrior as well?
Thanks for the help
Thanks for the help
