Default Help! NO oil flow

This is what I have sofar. The oil comes in through the top of the clutch cover, goes down the galley, goes through the oil cooler than goes through the crank....I can blow through the galley and it flows easily and blows back out the return hole in my face but there is NO oil in that whole circut. This makes me wonder... could that have hurt my crank? The crank seems to spin very easily and all with no noise, but that still worries me. Can oil get in without going through that circut? because luckily that whole time my engine was overfilled with oil (because oil cooler and all were empty). Now on to the hard part.... where does the oil feeding into the clutch cover galley come from? Im bout to go back outside and check the oil pump I guess, although I have no idea how it works or what to check. Also, im going to blow compressed air through the galleys to see where they come out and feed to and such.

Things I know sofar:
Head had no oil,
oil cooler had no oil (but flows correctly)

Also, I dont have the spring and other part to the oil drain plug, didnt come with it when I bought it used.

Default Help! NO oil flow

By no oil to the head, you mean you cracked open the little 8mm bolt on the carb side of the head and checked for oil flow after starting the engine? The manual says oil should come out after 5 to 10 sec of engine idling, is that how you checked it? I'm not sure blowing air will tell you for sure, good idea to check for blockage, though. The spring and screen for the plug isn't life or death, but it will catch a lot of big crap before it gets stuck in your pump or oil passage, which may be what happened to you. I would definately get them to keep things cleaner after you get your oil flowing again.

Default Help! NO oil flow

Seems like your trouble started with you installing the oil cooler if I remember right. How is it piped into the motor?

Default Help! NO oil flow

I have the whole top end apart right now. The oil cooler is there and not clogged, but no oil ever got to it. I can blow through it freely but the galley going to it is dry as is the return. If only I had a diagram of oil flow through the engine I could figure this all out pretty quickly.

are you using that oil cooler design from mascman?????? i think the design is good and that it shouldnt be the problem. But from what im hearing you have an oil pump problem, if it sucked a bunch of crap it might be clogged, or just have worn out.........

I guess ill dig into the oil pump then. I'm REALLY hoping my rod and crank didnt get scuffed up from lack of oil. The crank bearings look fine though.

Hey even if your pump looks fine everywhere, if the clearence between the inner rotor tip and the outer rotor tip is over 0.15mm or 0.006in it can cause it not to work,Or if the clearence between the outer rotor and the oil pump body is over 0.04-0.09mm or 0.002-0.004in it will require replacement. While your there if you already havnt you could check and clean the oil pipe because it may have became clogged with debrise.

Do you have the clutch cover off yet Jakal? Check the oil galley that goes up to the head. Did you use a gasket or something like Permatex? I would not use any silicone gasket maker on parts that will have oil flowing around since some material could tear off and cause problems. The stock gaskets are fine.

Try blowing some air into that galley and see what happens. If it is not blocked then I think the pump is the problem. The cooler kit is simple in design and I doubt that is the problem...especially since you verified that the passage is clear.

As far as the crank goes, it is sitting in oil so it should be fine. The top end has to have oil pumped to it, obviously, and I think that may be the problem. Maybe call a local shop and see if they know of a testing procedure for the pump.

I tore my topend apart for the builup and the cam was sitting in a pool of oil. Nothing dry in there at all.
