First Service
#1
I would just like to know when the average first service is on a new quad. My dealer told me 10 full tanks of gas. That sounds like a lot of miles to me for a first service. When I bought my Polaris they told me to bring it in after about 15 hours. How does the 00 Kodiak hold up? Should I take it in before the 10 tanks full? I realize I could probably do it myself, but I figured the first one can go to the dealer. Will it void the warranty if I don't take it to the dealer? Thanks.

READ YOUR OWNER'S MANUAL. It will tell you exactly when to take your atv in for service and what service is required.
If you do a complete service yourself, "as required per owner's manual" and something (and anything can) happens, your dealer can say the required service was done by an unauthorized factory mechanic and therefor, your claim will not be covered under warranty.
Paying about $200 for a factory service to protect the warranty on a $5000 or $6000 machine is worth the peace of mind. Remember, you pay the dealer for what they know and what they do more than how simple the required service appears.

Monk01, check a post that was made on April 13 "Is this the right price for first service" The other post had some good information about performing the first service yourself and the law regarding warranties.
I understand the confusion on when to do it. My manual says after 100 miles. The dealer told me not until 200 miles. Thats on a Honda. Friends with Yamahas and Polaris' have been told everything from after the first tank to after four tanks. Who knows. I changed the oil in mine at 100 miles and will have the shop do the first service, including setting valves at 200 miles.
I bought the service manual for mine and plan to do everything myself after that.
