Default Early Raptor problems

I have a 2001 Raptor that I bought new. I ride it here in moutainous East Tennessee. I use it but I don't abuse it. The only problem I've ever had out of it was the plunger spring in the choke. I replaced it with a $1.50 compression spring from Home Depot about 9 months ago and have not had a problem with it since. I also use reverse a lot, climb a lot of hills, rocks, mud etc. I love riding wheelies in first and second gear. I do not do 2nd gear starts off the line. Problem with a used one, unless you know how it's been treated, the tranny could be ready to go. Good luck!

You are the MAN!! I've been trying to think of where I could get that spring, and not have to pay the $23 yamaha wants for the whole assembly(because of course they don't sell JUST the spring. ) Thanks for mentioning it.

bpotter,

Great post. Actually, I hope everyone keeps talking the 01 down. I will use it the next time I find a 01 in as good a shape as mine. Maybe I can get it for a lower price.

Thanks. The springs are manufactured by Prime-Line Products Co. in San Bernadino, CA. They are in a small black and yellow package and come 6 to a package. The replacement spring from Yamaha is 1/4" dia. X 1-1/4" long. They were out of that size when I got mine so I used a 1/4" dia. X 1" long and it's worked very well. However, if you can get the 1/4" x 1-1/4", that's the correct size. Happy Trails !

I know 01's dont have a reverse rev limiter, but what part actually controls it? Is it the CDI?
