Default Yamaha TTR-125L/A little off the forum but....

I am thinking about buying my son a 2003 TTR-125L.He has pretty much outgrown his 95 XR80R . I can get one otd for $2463. Does anyone have any experiences with this bike? Will he notice a good bit more power even though I know it is not a YZ. Also is this otd price pretty good? It is from the dealer where I bought my Raptor and they were very good to deal with when I bought it and when I had the dreaded one way bearing problem fixed.I have one of the good dealers. Thanks for any input.

Im just wondering does your son ride a lot with you on his XR80? I thought maybe get him a YZ 85. Then he can really run with your raptor. JMO

Yes he rides with me a lot on my Raptor but the YZ is just too tall for him. That is what we origenly were thinking about.

You can get a YZ lowered you just have to get a knowledgeable mechanic to do it
Heck I know a kid who is 5'3 and he rides a 125!

I bought my boy a 125 last fall and he LOVES it. Plenty of power even before slip on and jetting. The YZ may be too much to handle. My son is not that experienced on motorcycles yet and I didn't want him to have a two stroke ( plus all of the maintenance of a two stroke). I purchased the 2002 125l for 2200 out the door ( tax and everything). Your price seems a little steep. Especially if you have bought from this dealer before. Also ask for matching helmet (free). I believe it is an unwritten policy that yamaha will give you a helmet, but the dealers never tell you this !!! Let him sit on it and possibly start it up and see if he can manage all of the levers and gears. You want him to atleast get the tip of his toes on the ground. I ride my raptor to it's fullest potential (fast as hell) and I do have to stop and wait sometimes, but through the woods, he's on my butt. Let your boy have some input also, but always stay with yamaha... Good, dependable and affordable !!! If you have any other questions just PM me.

there's a lot of those bikes around here, very popular with the high school age gang. from what i've seen theyre dependable and well made. And theres alots of mods you can get when you need them.
I havent ridden one myself but am impressed with them.

Guardog,
I am planning to take my son with me Thursday so he can sit on it again. He already has sat on one before and it was just right, his toes barely touched the ground. Also do you mind me asking how much you got your Raptor otd for. I got mine otd for 6200 which was well below any other dealer within driving distance. $2463 otd for the TTR seems pretty on the money for around here.I do get $200 back from Yamaha though which would bring the price to $2263. I am gonna talk to the dealer Thursday and see what he will give me on the 95 XR80R. Kelly bluebook says $700 trade value and thats what I want.I only gave $400 for it and it is in good shape. I will let you know what happens.

Thanks everyone for the info.
