Default Raptor '01 and '02 Tranny Gear Ratio Comparisons

I've got an '01 Raptor with an '02 tranny upgrade. But when I was looking at the invoice for the work done by the dealer, I noticed 1st gear and 5th gear was not replaced. Is there any difference in these two gears' ratios between the '01 and '02?

Raptortranny.com suggests changing 1st when the upgrade is done. Does it matter?

5th gear is the same. 1st gear is different ratio. 01-2.428 02-2.583

I like the 02 1st gear for trail riding alot better.

They should have replaced
1st gear wheel part # 5LP-17211-10-00
5th gear wheel part # 5LP-17251-10-00

I don't know how they could not as the new parts will not mesh together with the old parts only haveing 3 grooves for the dogs to mesh with the new gears having 4 dogs.

I check the part numbers on the invoice for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears, and they are the ones for '02. If it's not possible to mix them, they must have used the '02 for all the gears.....I hope...

According to Ratortranny.com the 2 parts I listed for 1st and 5th are required to upgrade. Are they on your invoice? Maybe they didn't charge you for them.

No they aren't on the invoice. Maybe they showed some mercy?

Wouldn't that be sweet. I know I wasn't shown any mercy when I had mine fixed. $$$$. They even tried to double charge me on some of the parts until I went over it with them.

Look on your invoice for "main axle"

1st's pinion is part of the main axle, 5th pinion is the same for both years. You definitely need 1st gear though that goes on the drive axle.

"Pinions" are on the main axle, and "gear wheels" are on the drive axle

01 ratio = faster but unreliable - 02 ratio = slow and steady with no gaps
