Warrior problems
#1
My friends Warrior started making this banging. I mean LOUD it sounds like sombody is hitting it with a hammer really hard. We can't find anything wrong, it has compression, the timing is good, valves are in spec. It sounds to me like it's coming from the clutch area, we took the cover off and it looks good. What could be wrong??? anything we havn't looked over yet that you guys can think of. Thanks

We need more information! does it do this under acceleration, all the time, does it get louder as RPM increase, in neutral, in gear... give us specifics. What was he doing when if first happend?
It sounds from what little information it is in the bottom end. Keep in mind there are a numer of moving parts near the clutch area. If ou could, i would remove the side cover, and crank the engine to see if i can hear any thing and do a better pin point. Just dont crank it too long, this is metal vs. metal and nothing good can come from that.

He stopped then went to take off and killed it with the clutch and he said it started knocking after that. Somthing broke that's for sure. Yes it gets louder as you increase RPM's, no to bad at idle about 2,500 RPM it gets bad.

Take apart the topend and look at the piston pin and the crank. Also check the crack by the counter balance in the case if you find nothing else. If it sounds like somethings hitting pritty hard it is probably something to do with the piston. any rattling inside the case and there is trouble.

Well we tore it down and the top-end was fine. It was the crank pin bearing it must have 1/4th" play in it. It's going to cost quite a bit to rebuild the crank. I'm considering a used one, this is a '95 Warrior. I found 2 used ones one from a '98 and the other from a '88. Will they fit?? that would be easier to just drop in a different crank. Thanks

If you do drop in a used crank u should preferably have it trued first. I Have my orig. motor outa mine complete, minus third gear and top end im going to build into a good bottom end to hold a outrageous bore kit, i need to have my crank trued, if you do let me know were you got it done, and how much it costs.

Warriors havnt been changed in ages as far as major engineering designs, i dont see how a used crank wouldn't fit right. Make sure they are still god, no use buying another messed up crank. Is there a stage 2 cam for warriors??? I have 2 warriors and am wondering if there is any hope for them. Until then ill stick with my rappy.

I do believe the cranks will fit. Just to be safe, i would try and get a crank that is about a 93 or newer... I am thining wear on the parts. In my 87 i had to replace the crank due to a poor mantinance schduel by the previous owner. Then once i got that new crank in the dealer broke of the square key that is mounted to it and i had to get another one... They did replace that. While doing this i would also replace the clutch and clutch gears. He really poped and joleted the gears hard to break the crank.
If you do buy a used crank be sure to get it trued. Any automotive engine builder/builder should be able to get this done for you. Good luck and be sure to replace ALL the seals and gaskets you come across. TRUST ME!
