Lake Arrowhead ride-Mar 2

I was invited for a ride in the San Bernadino Mts yesterday. We weren't sure how much snow was going to be up there, but we were going to find out. We parked at the Pinnacles staging area off hwy 173 and set out from there. Depending which trail you took the snow was not a huge factor, but there was a lot of water run off. I have my airox lid modded so I was ingesting some water. The weather was awesome, clear blue skys, a light wind, not over crowded. A lot of guys on dirt bikes it seemed people were really enjoying themselves.
We did take one loop that had 6-8 inches of snow, the going was a little sloppy and techincal. Which probably explains why ended up flipping my ride again. The ride was really challenging and physical. Some of the other trails are very tight and choppy, you really need to watch your front wheels so as not to snag a tree. Now is a great time to get up there.

Holy crap.
The last time I was up there they were closing it down for a year due to all the fires in the mountains. Maybe I misunderstood the Rangers. This was back in the summer. I crashed and rolled my quad then as well. I guess they reopened once they figurewd fire season was over and the danger was no more. I wonder if cleghorne road is open now? I need to call the ranger district.
I love that place as well. The trails are great. Just wide enough and if your not careful you will crash. The way I hear some people on here talk of their woods riding makes me believe they don't ride as tight and technical a trail as to be found in the San Bernardino mountains at Lake Arrowheads Pinnacle.
Thanks for this post. I wasn't even gonna try and go back to that place until after Summer this year.

Redskin,
I think Cleghorn is still closed. My cousins lived in the area a long time and know it a lot better then me so I let them guide me. It is technical up ther, power is nothing and skill is GOD like. If you go now you will find out first hand, I am no pro. Those trails will beat you into submission before the day is out. My legs are screaming still. And, loving it! I got o find a way to go riding and not flip my ride......seems that last few times out i'm getting inverted.

I know every trail by heart. Have been going there for some time now. Was very dissapointed when the rangers came that day and gave us a flier on the closure.
Have you gone across Deep creek and tried to go up the area that is called the waterfall? I had to get off the quad and walk it along one part for a few feet and then lift up and turn the front of the quad in the direction I needed to go to make it up. Then rode up to cactus flats (I beleieve thats the name) camp ground.
I like the loop that goes along the road then into the woods the best, then turn right onto a trail that eventualy goes by someones house. Thats my favorite part of the trails there but all of them are fun to ride in the heat of summer when every where else is just to hot, except Pismo.

Cleghorne is in the cajon pass. Just south of the Palmdale/Lake Silverwood exit. There is and exit called Cleghorne. Exit the fwy and park. The dirt road goes over the mountains all the way to Lake Silverwood with some pretty cool jeep trails to work your way over or you could just sstay on the main dirt road. It's still closed I'm sure though. It was right in the middle of the fires. Half the trails were burned over.

A couple of weeks ago, I think I actually saw a few people riding there on Saturday. I was heading to Hesperia and just past the 138, I saw motorcycles and ATV's riding. I was wondering if it was legal and if it was how to get there. Looked pretty cool. Thanks.

Thats not the Cleghorne. That is Baldy Mesa. You exit at the 138 exit to go to Lake Silverwood. At the exit go strait across the road to a dirt road. It follows along the freeway for a while. When you pass the second set of RailRoad tracks you can unload there. Theres even a toilet there. . That road goes along the ridge of mountains and will take you to the 138 road that goes to Palmdale. Its a cool ride, not as fun to me as Cleghorn but still fun. It is open and was never closed.
