Not yet. I am still waiting for a new coil. At this point, the problem happens all the time. Doesn't matter any more if I have a new plug in it or not nor how long it has been running. It still starts and runs fine until you really snap the throttle trying to get somewhere in a hurry. If I just take it easy I can work my way up to 1/2 throttle or more before it start missing all over the place.

Bummer Jon, hope you figure it out. I know mine would bog around 1/4-1/2 throttle more or less regardless of what I did to the carb adjustments until I realized I was too big on the main jets. Once I got them close, the rest of the carb adjustments were more controllable/effective. However, it didn't take hours for it to warm up & for the problem to occur. It usually took about 5 mins & then it would bog. Good luck & let me know when you want to ride with us in PA.

Chimmer,

It sounds like his is doing what mine did. Remember?

I could start and run fine for about 3 minutes until I tried to get on it. then it would more or less shut down until it got back to idle. I could also work it up to about 1/2 throttle if I really went gradually.

I replaced the plug and all was well. or it jsut went away.

Ya mike, it was fm, came clear while testing, sounds like the plug/wire are common in both cases, hmmmm......

let me throw a couple of different things at you. have you been experiencing any of the one way bearing grinding noises? if so check the coil what happened to mine was the metal shavings from the one way got caught up on the magneto and was causing my plug to fire more this eventually led to a burned out cdi unit. another thing to check is the reverse switch (by the counter shaft sprocket) it is a spring loaded POS just try to ground it out with a jumper and last but not least I have an '01 cdi unit i'll sell cheap. in the event you do end up needing one. oh yeah do your valves sooner than 50 hrs. and if all that dosen't help check your float levels.
good luck

i havent read through all of the posts, so ignore this if you have already looked at it:

the raptor has a safety feature built in. it cuts throttle down when the parking brake cable isnt properly connected. if you have lowered the quad, it may have stretched the cable, and it isnt correctly fastened at both ends. this is a common problem, even if you havent changed any suspension parts. even occasional use of the parking brake can cause serious malfunction.

take a look at it if you havent already, and good luck figuring it out.

I will try some of the latest suggestions. My new coil arrived yesterday. I might try to get out to the garage tonight. Otherwise, I am leaving for Florida Friday night for about 10 days.

I did replace the one-way bearing once but everything was clean inside the engine metal shaving wise. I have a Scotts filter with the magnet in it too. It has been clean. I hate to take the cover off again for fear of ruining the gasket.

I don't think it is the jetting since I have been running almost 2 years with it the way it is. Maybe it is one of the other electrical items mentioned. If not, the CDI will be next. I will be in touch about the used one.

Anyone know if the 2003 CDI is the same? Strange as it is, I might buy another Raptor since I have so many spare parts. The alternative is to sell the 2001 along with all the spare parts inventory and get two new quads of another make and model.

/Jon
