Actually I disagree with 1BAD250R.
From what I have been told, the remote reservoir ones hold more oil and therefore run cooler. This allows them to take a beating for longer before they heat up and start to fade. It is all about the volume of oil. That is how it was explained to me by the shop that rebuilt my Elkas. If they told me wrong please inform me.
But I really don't think any of us mortals will be able to tell a huge difference. Doug Gust uses a piggy back long travel Elka on the front of his, but many others use remote rezzie Custom Axis shocks on theirs and all do well in pro MX and XC racing.
