Every time I get on the forums, I see something about a problem with the Wolverine. Do they really have this many problems? I'm thinking of getting one, but if they have so many problems I won't get one.

No machine is perfect. With this said, some machines do tend to have more problems than others Much of the time, you will see the same problems with the same machine. Such is the case with the Wolverine. Granted, it is known to have a weak rear axle, eat up brakes, and to have a poor filtration system. All in all though it is a pretty solid machine that will not fail if you maintain it well and inspect it yourself periodically. I would recommend the Wolverine to anybody. Mine has yet to fail me, and it is pretty highly modded.

I have a 98 and love it! I ride with some guys who have Honda's and they have problems as well. My 350 Wolverine has no problem when it come to trail riding or muding with a 450 foreman. Get a Wolverine and you will love it.

Rudnik,
I see where you are coming from with your concern. I have noticed an over abundance of Wolv problem postings in here lately. I posted one myself. The wolverine is a fairly solid machine all in all. I know one thing and that is that we Wolverine owners push our quads to the limits. Think about it. If you wanted to take it easy through the woods you probably wouldn't buy a wolverine. The typical wolverine owner jumps, mud bogs, loves to climb over fallen trees and ride through deep water with all of that ground clearance, we just do it all and it takes its toll on the poor machines. I am not saying that they are perfect, but they are fairly solid machines that are built to just about do it all.

I own a 95 with a lot of mods on it and I like it quite well. BUT If I wasnt a licensed mechanic for a living, I would of probably sold it a long time ago. The bikes have a lot of wear items that a lot of people may not know about. The brakes dont last long even if you buy the good metallic pads. The front wheel bearings are also a problem. The u joints also wear out quite quickly. Also the rearend seals are terrible and even if you replace the seals every year there is always water getting in the rearend. The electric starters are very weak and if you raise the comp. like I did be prepared to pull the bike to start it. Thank god mine has the recoil on it cause I have to use it now because of the higher comp. Also I,ve seen a couple of ones that broke the crankcases inside where the starter idler gear goes and this isnt a cheap fix!!! And lastly its time for Yamaha to update the outdated 350 cc engine. The stock torque level is quite low so oversize tires on a stock engine dont turn very well in the mud.Even after all the mods I've done to mine I an not really happy with the power but I cant afford a new bike now so I have to be happy with what I,ve got .

I have a '99 Wolverine. The only problem I've had with mine is that the parking brake doesnt want to stay working. But hey who cares?! How often are you going to leave it parked! ;-) I've done a few mods to mine and I love the thing. Before my mods I could/still can take a 500 Polaris Scrambler and spank it 3 ways from Sunday! We raced both quads bone stock too. Anyhow I'd say go with the Wolverine. I love mine!

maybee its the simple fact that more people own them? therfore the breakdown to ownership ratio would equall out to the other quads. just my opinion.

I havent had much trouble w/ my 99. I replaced the front bearings with sealed ones before the stockers went bad. As for the starter, I run higher compression and havent had trouble turning the motor over with the starter. I know a guy with a 95 w/ 11:1 compression and he never mentioned any starter problems. Something to watch out for I guess. All in all, they are a pretty solid quad. The thing I like is how many mods are available, and how easy the thing is to work on. Get one you will like it.
