Wolverine 4X4
#1
I am selling my sportbike to buy a quad. I had my mind set on a Polaris 500 or 600, but a friend has offered his 02 Wolverine with winch and plow for $3800. He will take my bike on trade and give me $1000 cash if I want to trade him for it.
It doesn't sound to bad to me, but I'm not sure about having a quad with only full time 4x4. My question is, how much maintence will be involved with normal wear with running the 4x4 all the time? Also, what's the turning radius like with 4x4 locked all the time? Does it buck on asphalt or hard pack? Does it wear the tires quickly? How do the unlockers work and are they worth it?
Thanks for any feedback!

I love my 03 wolverine. It does not buck on pavement at all. Turning radius is excellent. I ride mine alot and just basic maintaince is needed. Oil changes, clean air filter. I rode mine through 26" of snow with no problem. It's a real fun quad. I don't think unlockers are availble yet. Good luck i'm sure you will like it.

highlifter has a wolverine un-locker on their website. go to their online catalog on the top of their page, hit utility quads and scroll down to the catagory "drivetrain and suspension" and click wolverine un-locker. it is on sale for $289. it was $339. i have the locker in the front end of my wolverine that "locks" the front end into full posi. it is awesome in the mud but steers harder than a mother on pavement, concrete and not too bad on hardpack. it just replaces the front limited slip. it does the exact same thing that my p650 does when you pull the little yellow lever it just doesnt steer quit as hard. (assuming because of the wolv. lighter front end) i think that i'm going to take it out and put the limited slip back in though. i wonder if that un-locker would work with that locker in the front? that way it would just be "fully locked" when put in 4x4. that would be pretty awesome.

Warn also makes an unlocker for the wolverine. I found mine at www.montanajacks.com I think it runs like $298.00.

spike82228,
Did you install the unlocker or did you take it somewhere? If you installed it, how difficult was it? How does it perform? Shift on the fly or do you have to stop? Do you notice any more top speed with the front wheels dis-engaged?

Rammy,
You could add the unlocker and still have your diff locked. You would have 2X4 or true 4X4, I think. Ask HL, they should know.

rammy,
im interested in the locker for the wolv. where did you get it? did you ever try it with the 424 unlocker? if so, did it handle curves as a two wheel quad or is it still hard to steer cause both frontwheels are now truly locked?
thanks
