Was it a cometic gasket? Not to say anything bad but ive had nothing but problems with them and I had to pay $50 for the yamaha head gasket.

Yes, it was. It was recommended by 14mins as a high compression gasket. I think that I will go get a Yamaha. Doesn't look like it would seal very good.

Good thing you did'nt continue with the assembly.....that gasket looks horrible. I used a Yami gasket with no troubles.

do you have any open bags of kibbles and bits laying around?!
sixsixT I am glad you get a laugh at my expense.LOL its good for the soul.

Thats the same kind of gasket I use, never any trouble with it. I won't use any other now. I did blow one of Cometic's with out the ring though.

IMO, this is why people are having timing chain problems
I know my tensioner was installed properly, but my chain is stretched REALLY bad. It is deffinately something to watch out for when re-installing. It could truely cause one to go prematurely.

I think that my chain is ok b/c it is hard as hell to get back on. Damn it, now I got to do that all over again!

Where can I get a gasket set online? Preferably with overnight shipping.

Did you buy the gasket from 14 or Craycraft? If so, just get another one, it was obviously defective. Or, take it back to where you got it and get another, of course this is all for free, imo

Lean the cam over into the timing chain galley and this will give you more slack too get the chain on....then the cam will slip right into it's seated position....'course, this is all done without the tensioner uninstalled and aligning the timing marks up for proper timing...

I don't really know. 14 give me the number to call, but I spoke with bob craycraft. I was a little confused about how that was run, but bob was real helpful. I guess I can call him and see if he will shoot me another one.

There goes my weekend.

When installing the timing chain, gear and cam I lift the chain up, pull toward you, drop the cam gear in, put the chain on the gear, install the cam, then lift the gear onto the cam. If its not aligned right I drop it off the cam and walk the chain around the gear until I have it right then move it back up onto the gear.

I don't know abou that. When I put my gasket in, exact same one as that, the ring could slide around as well. You just have to take a little more care putting them in. Obviously this is just my opinon too.
