Default Anodizing aluminum

Has anybody ever had this done? What is the purpose of it other than color? And can you direct me to a web address that has some info on getting it done?

I am just trying to plan for the future, like if my bike ever runs for more than one trip. I have my cases polished now but I thought they would look pretty nice anodized...not sure what color yet. I have seen chrome, polished, and powdered so maybe just something different would be kinda neat too.

TIA

anodizing is mainly for looks. Although it will protect the aluminum from dulling. They can do many processes with anodizing, they can do selective anodizing, they can anodize murals and designs, do special fading processes, all which are purely cosmetic.
