Crankcase breather shooting out oil???
#1
My dads 2001 warrior has a problem with it. When he rides it shoots oil out of the crankcase breather hose.( Quite a bit of oil). Also when he is first riding he says it runs excellent, but after riding for about 45 minutes it starts to cut out a little when climbing the dunes. Then when he shut it off when we stopped for a minute he had a hard time starting. But then 10 minutes later when we stopped, it would not start. ( I had to pull it from the middle of the dunes at dumont with my raptor back to camp.) THen this morning, after letting it cool off over night it started right up. Does anyone have any idea how this could happen?? Could it be something to do with the piston or rings?
Thanks for any help you can give.
P.S. My raptor pulled that thing REALLY good. Even over a hill.

It sounds like there is too much oil in the crankcase. That is why it is shooting out.
About the running part, does it have a good spark and or spark plug? just some food for thought.

We checked the oil and it was right at the full line. THen we took it to the desert to test out your theory Blaster96, but after a half an hour it just shut off. The oil still blew out and after letting it sit for about a half hour or 45 minutes it started up and made it most of the way back to the truck before dying again. And yes it was full of gas. Does anyone have any idea whats wrong with this?

This is purely a guess but......could it be worn piston rings allowing blow-by and pressurizing the case ? This might get worse when hot and the compression could be bad enough to cause running problems ?? Try doing a compression check ?
Just a guess but maybe worth pondering......

All right. Sounds like there is pressure entering the crankcase. this is normally casued by warn out rings. The air gets sucked into the cylinder and is then forced down into the crankcase. This would also cause very poor compression once the engine warmed up to a high temperature. once that happens it will die because there is not anything combustable in the combustion chamber. Sounds to me like you need new rings if not a bore job and a new piston. good luck!

Thanks for all your input. We will check the compression. Are new pistons and rings expensive on a 2001 warrior??

I have no clue about the YES warrenty, as i have purchased all of my quads used.
Here is a run down on the parts u will need to buy:
-Head gasket
-base gasket
-Piston
-Rings (compression and oil)
-Bushing
I do not think this should run any where above $100.00. I do not know exact figures, but i am sure that is close if you do all the work your self. I would suggest buy a repair manuel as well.
