Just want to know if any other Grizzly owners have ever had a problem with a fire within the front engine area.

I have a 99 Grizzly, and while riding through some cornfield this weekend, I guess some dry stalks got caught in the front, behind the brush guard. Well they apparently caught fire from the manifold exhaust leading around the engine to the muffler. Didn't even notice I was aflame until my son, from a distance, was screaming hysterically.

Damage consisted of: meltdown of the Oil cooler line, speedometer cable, and the pin that held the interior mudflap in melted away.

Has this ever happened to anyone else and does Yamaha make a brush guard for pretection of the engine area. One more question....do does anyone think that this is covered by the extended warranty, or should I make an insurance claim?

That sounded scary, glad you were not injured.

No Bud-light, comes to mind. Anyway yes I also had a flaming "incident". I drove my Warrior through a LARGE pile of leaves. When I came out the other side I was smoking. Luckily I had time to pull out the leaves before anything was damaged.

As for a cure...I do not think so. You need the front end open for cooling.

Do not get me started on the extras....

CHECH THIS OUT
just last week in Welch West Virginia, a friend of mine's, neighbor, bought a brand new Grizzly, drove it up in the mountians, when it reached about 5 miles on the odometer it started missing real bad, so he turned around, and when he got it back to his house it was barely running, it caught fire in his driveway and burnt to the ground NO LIE

I don't have a Grizzly, but I have done the same thing. While moving equipment from feild to feild I got some corn stalks caught on the head pipe of my Wolverine. Mine did not burn/melt anything because I noticed the smell early enough to get it put out. As far as any warrenty covering this I would be surprised. Best bet is use extream caution when runnin through dried grass, corn stalks, etc..

I have a 98 Grizzly and I too have had a small flammage incident. I was pulling my brush cutter through some fields that had been left and grew up with what we call horse weeds. It was early spring (feb/mar) and the weeds were dead and dry. They are very tall and stalky and would break off as I drove through them.

Needless to say some of them got stuck in the bumper/radiator/exhaust area and caught on fire. Luckily I smelled smoke right away and pulled them out before any serious damage was caused. I am used to this beast running hot, but that was a little extreme for even me.
