Powdercoating Vs Chrome
#1
I am negotiating a deal with a guy on a +4 swingarm he has, it's almost new, and it's powdercoated black. It looks nice, but I kinda wanted a Chrome one. I can't decide if I should keep it black, and chrome some little things, like the brake and sprocket hub & axle, or take off the powdercoating and chrome it. I'm getting beat in the looks department by the drag banshees at the drag strip, so I gotta fix er up a bit.

I'm not tryin to be a smart-*** but if youre racing it seems logical to direct money into performance rather than looks - also, chrome holds heat more than paint. I think it's a worse feeling to get beat by an ugly bike. Personally, I like the sleeper effect.......IMO

Welcome to my world!!!!
To quote an unknown author, "Go Fast ,Then Look Good".
I am waiting to get my shee running the way I want it to before I do too much for the looks.

I know what you are talking about outofcontrol. I was at silver lake 2 weeks ago drag racing. Most of the people would skoff at my bike, then Id roost all over them. I barely have enough money to put into the motor let alone make it look good . This one guy I was racing had about an 6 inch extened swingarm, CPI pipes, and 10 paddle 21 inch haulers. I whopped him with my stock swingarm, DG pipes, and 8 paddle sand devils. But of course I had the carbs and the porting on top of that, but still..

chrome only peels if you dont take care of it. If i were you id chrome the swingarm if your riding sand because it wont get dinged and chipped. And powdercoat the hub's. The hubs take a lot of abuse from sandblasting as does the axle. I wouldnt chrome the axle because it will dull in no time.

No, the swingarm is already powdercoated black, the question was if I should have the arm sandblasted then chromed, or just leave it with the black powdercoating. It looks pretty nice with the blac, I was set on chrome, but it will be too much trouble to remove the black powdercoating.
