Chroming cylinders
#1
ANybody know any reasons why you shouldnt chrome cylinders? I've heard that they hold heat, but I run a alcohol bike, so that really sint a problem. I would like to chrome instead of polish, because the chrome looks better and holds its shine better. Any Ideas???

The cylinder won't turn blue due to heat because behind the aluminum is the coolant jackets so the external temp never gets hot like the exhaust which can reach 800 degrees or more. I have to say though, I have never seen chrome put on aluminum with much success. I work at a car dealer and most cars/truck I see with the chromed aluminum wheels on them are losing chrome after just a few years.

Did you dip your cylinder yet? I want to know how it turned out. I'm looking at the latest dirtwheels, and there's a '98 banshee in there with "$1500 worth of chrome" and I'm positive his cylinders are done too.

I'm not sure of the exact company name, but HPC Coatings sounds familiar. They have three locations nationwide (one in Oklahoma City). They can also do pipes/cylinders in select colors. Look in the back of a DirtWheels or even a street bike mag, Cycle World.

I havent done mine yet. I have been satisfied with just polished fineshed.. I have 1200$ worth of chrome, so I must just be a set of cylinders short of him!
