WHO HAS 2001 RAPTOR STARTER CLUTCH FAILURES??
#11
My buddy doesn't get on the forums but, his 2001 had the tranny go and when it did he but the fortin gears in and high compression piston and cam.
His one-way went out last trip! Hopefully the L&A Design one works out better for him.
My Wife's 03 Raptor became hard to turn over when we got the high compression piston and cam put in. Is this a sign it is about to go out? Should I change it now before it hurts something else in there?

Scroll up and you can see I said that my second one went out. Now you can scratch that and make it third.
Dune Me, yeah what Raptor03 said, don't wait.

My 01 failed at 150hrs when it was relatively stock. 8 months with the L&A have been great, although my starter motor is starting to get a little weak after 3 years hard running and needs rebuilt to spruce it up.
I have not heard of one starter drive gear (pinions) problem with either the roller or solid bearing. Its cheaper for yamaha to use an oiled solid bearing. I lean toward liking the bushing/bearing since its a yamaha, less moving parts the better.

I put in the higher compression piston and right away it was harder to turn over (which is understandable.) It doesn't slip at all just hard to turn over.
Guess I'll be doing the one-way (gotta get it done before Dumont/Thanksgiving - don't want the Wife's bike to be down for that trip.
