why does it need a filter so bad? the stock line goes to the airbox - not to the stock filter! ie. it is not "breathing" filtered air. I dont know but seems to me its just a place to put it and it has no suctions of any sort.

All the breather does is push air.

I thought It sucked air.... I put one on anyways. I used a chrome Harley V-Twin crankcase filter breather because it came with a chrome mounting bracket.Do a search on e-bay and you'll find one for about 10 bucks. It's nice too because you can mount the bracket to the middle nut of the Pro Design flange. I'll post pics when I get them.

You local Autozone/Discount/Advance stores have little airfilters that will work fine. You have to go to the Import racing/dressup section to find them. I would definietly put on a breather. The pipe ocilates pushing and pulling air with the rotation of the crank/piston. I do not like the idea of any amount of dust/dirt/water being allowed to enter my crankcase.

BTW the filters in the import section are about $9.

I totally agree with you there. Makes sense on the push-pull.

Like bigblack said it pulses when the engine has reached running temp. While your engine is heating up it releaves pressure trough the hose and when it's cooling draws air dust and dirt with it as everything cools and contracts. The original setup with nonfiltered air was pretty stupid and continuing to run it that way now that you know better is too. Check out my picks in the gallery to see how I mounted the K&N breather.
