Header wrap problems
#1
Just want to give everyone a heads up on what seems to becomeing common practice. I had one of the first Grizzlies at our local dealership( blue '02 purchased dec. '01). I wrapped the header pipe before anyone ever posted it. The wrap after 1.5 years and approx. 1500 kms. has deteriorated and started to crumble off. I decided to ceramic coat the pipe. Upon inspection of the pipe i find that it is pitted and rusted almost 1/2 way thru the pipe. The header wrap never allowed the pipe to dry properly but did allow enough air to create rust and thereby pitting the pipe. I'm not sure what the header pipe is worth but I am sure that had I left the wrap on much longer I would have been forced to find out. Just wanted to let everyone know. Thanks

Xcelr8, the majority of our riding is on trails however we are always in search of holes (deep and wet). The problem is not the amount of holes but the fact that the wrap holds the moisture against the steel pipe for a long period of time. I'm sure that one mud hole per ride will end up creating the same result. Good luck!

Xcelr8, good point. The h20 does infact evaporate away after bailing into and out of the holes (don't get excited Padzz), however this leaves behind all of the minerals that do create and actually enhance the rusting process. I probably flunked chemistry (I can't remember that far back) but thats what I can recall. After the ride we all wash our quads and that water residue most likely doesn't burn off so the wrap holds that against the pipe. All I know for sure is that my pipe is in bad shape. Good luck.
