Default prob with clutch, no money......

I took off the cable clutch and parking break to install a Magura Clutch but it ended up not working so i decided to put on the old clutch minus the parking break......no prob right? WRONG......the clutch would not work.....finally after like 5 hours or tryin to fix it, my friend, who never fixes anything comes through and some how it works for the ride last weekend.......well i think it is slipping now.....im confused because i dont know where it engages and where it disengages the clutch.....is it the little space it move freely with out pulling too hard, or is it past that where u have to pull it a little bit harder? CAN ANYONE MAKE ANY SENSE OF WHAT IM SAYIN? I do not have the money to get it serviced and fixed, or to let it slip and burn out my clutch.......i just bought an aftermarket perch and lever yesterday so i have no parking break, and im gonna install that tom....how far does the clutch need to pull in and when do i know when its right???
P.S. Don't even mention the Magura Clutch im sending it back!
