i never noticed a loss of power, but sometimes you can hear a little knock or click sound while idling, i heard thats a sign...i usually get them aligned and take it to the factory after 20-30 hrs. or two riding trips

so there are no signs of them being in need of adjustment. Except for the fact that they are out of adjustment. I guess the only way to check them is to actually look at them? im thinkin about giving them a try soon because its a rip to have it done at the dealer! btw, someone told me you get crappy gas mileage. Is this true? thanks

there is no way i would have a dealer do it, it is not hard and the only thing you need is a feeler gauge, it takes only a hour tops.

The intake valves tend to tighten. I had close to 200 hours on mine before I adjusted them last. They were just barely tight. I am not sure if people mean they check them or they actually adjust them. If this is a street bike engine, I don't understand how you could need to adjust them every 20 hours. That would be a trip to Florida and back for me. I have at least 400 hours on the Raptor and have never adjusted the exhaust side yet. It is always in the middle of the tolerance range.

Also just checked the Honda 400ex. It has at least 100 hours on it since I last checked. Didn't have to adjust them at all.

yeah thats what i was always thinkin. I mean 20 hours for an oil change...fine. But to have to take gas tank off and all that (not that its that difficult, but its not exactly a carefree type of adjustment) every 20 hours is like every weekend for me. 3 months seems more like it!

I do mine every 20 hours when I change the oil & do all the other service.

These are high reving high preformance engines & need to be serviced more often than for example a Rancher or other utility quad would.
each time I checked mine at 20 hours the intakes were slightly out of spec but the exhausts were ok.

if you let them go too far & the intakes get so tight they leak well then your in for some major repairs.
