Default New Cat...got a question.

Hi there,

just picked up an 07 AC 400 Manual. First quad. Fun for the whole family...at least thats what I told my wife lol

About the break in period...is plowing snow not recommended within the first 100 - 200 miles? I just saw in the Owners Manual that trailer towing is not advised during break in. Anyone have any thoughts/experience with this?

Thanks in advance.

When I got my 2004 400 I used it to plow with about 50 miles on it. All was good. Just take it out for a long ride this weekend and you will get your miles on her! I've always believed in breaking things in the way I plan to use them and I've never had a problem. Just my opinion.

Default New Cat...got a question.

Thanks Catman..
did you get a manual bike?

The reason I went for a manual is:
- no belt to replace &
- ability to hunt/cruise very quietly and slowly in a higher gear

Also, would you not think an upshift would be a toe manouever?
Personally, I find it a bit odd to upshift with the heal. I'm sure I'll get used to it as I have experience with motorbikes etc.

One other thing - did you use tire chains to plow?

Thanks cnb

Actually the "heel down" is the same as a "toe up" shift and you don't screw up the top of your shoe or boot. In a short time you will get used to it. Arctic Cat has a toe shifter available, it is # 0436-239 Says fits all 500 and 400 models, but when you read the "small print" it says that it fits "the '03 - 500 and the '96 thru '02 - 400". So I really can't tell you if it fits the later models. But then I'm an old hot rod guy and can make anything fit. Of course AC said the shift indicator lights system wouldn't fit on my 2001 AC 250, but it does and works great and I didn't fabricate any parts, just got what I need from the AC parts catalog. They wife really likes being able to glance down and see what gear she is in.

I did use chains, but they only help when the ground is icy. Other then that, I actually had an auto. Arctic Cat's belts are basically good for the life of the ATV and don't need to be replaced. However the main reason for me getting it was because my wife wanted it

Default New Cat...got a question.

Thanks for the reply guys. This board is helpful, especially for a newbie.

Hey Bear..whats up with the shift indicator lights system?
That is one other thing I found odd about the manual. With the display pod on the new bike I would of thought there would be a gear indicator - other than fwd - N reverse.

On the older 250, 300 and 400 and some 500 models there were indicator lights available. My 2005 400 does not have all the switch connections to make the lights work. The 250 did, so I got the kit and
and a couple of other parts and it still works almost 3 years later. I though I saw where the newer engines have the other switch with all the connections, but I didn't check it out to confirm it. Maybe this winte I'll do that.
