Default got a mikuni carb for my 200cc beast... need air filter now

hey guys, i got tired of fooling around with the stock china carb on the beast (mine wasnt that bad, have to adjust the needle for different temperatures, and crank the idle and work the choke to get it started... still boggy when its up to temp.)

so i got a mikuni with a 44-45mm (1 3/4") air filter outlet. (this ebay seller is great too, quick shipping and good price! Carburetor MIKUNI XR250 CRF250 XR200 CRF200 XR CRF on eBay.ca (item 370387918871 end time 07-Jun-10 01:34:04 EDT)) and i'm having trouble finding a decent air filter to fit. most out there on ebay in particular are 30, 35, and 40 mm filters. i will also need it to be the same 90* angle to fit.

who has done this upgrade, how's it working out for ya and what and where did ya find a filter for not over like $20? (lol come on! we bought china quads, cant say we're not cheap basturds!

Have you tried James Lucky, Dennis Kirk, or Parts Unlimited? I've seen generic pod filters with angled inlets in Dennis Kirk, the others may have it as well. Or you could get some heavy walled cooling hose with a 90 in it, that fits the carb, clamp it to the carb, find a short metal tube that fits in the 90, and clamp the filter to that. Not a fancy or clean looking way to do it, but should work?? then you could just use a standard straight pod filter, they are a dime a dozen.

do you suspect this filter might be too restrictive just due to the small element size on it? i mean it does go all the way around..., but not much 'depth' or filter area.

Welcome to the forum jimbeater!

That fliter looks small to me... I put a UNI Pod filter on most of mine.... 1.75 Dia X 4" on the 200 and 250.

There is this one from the same seller as your carb, dont know how long it is. It is only 2mm smaller, which you should be able to stretch over your carb.

Air Filter Dirt Pit Bike ATV Quad Honda Curve 1.65 inch on eBay.ca (item 150458515395 end time 01-Jul-10 03:07:40 EDT)

This is like what I have:

You have to watch the lentgh, mine fits, but barely, they put the carb way to close to the battery box on the beast.

yeah i found that one from the person i bought the carb from, but it's so cheaply made. much rather have a better filter element to it. i'm going to go for that 2nd one you pointed out. i may have to rig it more to fit as i have added 1/8" around my battery box for a metal support for the box since i ripped it. should have kept the air filter in mind when i put that on... oh well i'll smack it with the hammer and bend it in some. if still no fit, well i'll make a custom cold air intake in front of the engine...lol
