ok I did some testing .......If you go to the left side of your 300 youll find a large rubber boot with a bunch of wires in it ...slide the boot to your left exposing the wire connections ..
look for the connection with a lavender wire and a green wire grouped together(coming from a single black sheething on each side of the connection )
now unplug both connections then take the two conections coming from the front of the 300 and plug them together ....then run a peice of wire so one end connects to the two wires juist plugged togher and the other end needs grounding either to the frame or the negative side of the battery

if you get it right the nutral light should come on and stay on
my 300ex is a 98 model and wiring has changed a bit over the years ...
if you dont have the same color wires then trace the wire coming from the bottom right hand side of the enjine back to the boot i described eailer and do the same thing

after you said that it should start in any gear as long as i had the clutch in I checked the wiring around the clutch leaver. The ground wire was cut so i spliced it together and now it works as it should thanks for the info!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
