Default 2002 CARB ISSUES (trx350 4X4 FE ES)

I may have posted this in the wrong place but here goes again (mods feel free to delete the post in Utility Vehicles).

I was going to order a new carb for my 2002 Rancher. I put in 2006 by accident and noticed the 2006 carbs are about $100 less than the 2002.

Any ideas what the major change is from a 2002 VE94AC to the VE94EA?

Would the 2006 work in the 2002?

Wow, $100 difference?

I can't tell you the diff, but my old 04 TRX450 had a carb with electric heater in
it to help it warm up. Your 02 may not have that. If the 06 fits and the cables
match up, it should work, even if your 02 does not have a circuit for the heater.

I have rebuilt probably 100-150 carbs, and the only time I have had an ATV carb
be non-rebuildable is when the pilot air screw was siezed and could not be
removed without ruining the carb body.

Default yep

Yep $100 difference and thats looking at 3 diffferent sites that Google produced.

I started thinking maybe they just jack the price up because the carb for the 2002 is over 13 years old....dunno.

But yes the 2002 does have a heater, I plugged into it years ago.

I should probably clean my carb because I'm sure its gunked up and its the reason the ATV wont start, but Ive got a buyer and dont have the time to do it. So new is cost effective.

I was looking through an old Clymer manual and it says to disconnect the breather tube.

Does this carb have a connection to something from a breather tube? I know Ive got at least three dangling breathers, but none go anywhere....

To clean out the carb takes 5 min more than swapping one. You have all the plastics and tank to take off for both operations, only extra work is removing the four screws in the float chamber and the two jets to bow them out. As you don't need to take the throttle cable off to clean it, not much difference.

Interesting, you just flip it over, undo bowl screws, undo jet, clean them with the cable still attached, hmmmmm.

OK here's a new development. When starting I smelled some electrical burning odor. Then the lights came on. I checked the fuses but all were OK. Did I fry my ECU?
Would a fried ECU keep it from starting but everything else would still work?
Lights work, starter works. It turns over fine and will try to run when I give it a shot of starter fluid....just wont stay lit.

If it tries to run the ECU must be supplying a spark, so it is working.

MERRYMAN is right: replacement is not easier that cleaning out the old carb, unless it is really really bad.

If you do not have to remove the thottle cable, that is a plus, as some are not easy to remove.

I like to clean the float bowl and jets, but also remove the needle valve and polish off any roughness on the sides and seat. I also remove the pilot air screw and the cold-start enrichener valve. Primer pump if one exists.

By cleaning, I mean blasting carb cleaner thru every orifice, then blowing thru them with an air gun before it dries. I alway remove and look thru the jets, too. Light thru them = good.

I double-checked and my TRX450 was an 02, not an 04.
