Erratic spark on 05 Eton Viper 90R

I tend to go for the substitution method, partly because I can't trust my meter on the ohms scale. There is just a possibility of a wire connector heating up but it is most likely to be either coil, CDI, voltage regulator or stator. I don't know how much these items are for an Eton 90 but would buy the cheapest and try it, then the next most expensive, etc. Faults like this are bad to test for, as it probably won't show up until the fault is "on."
