Hi, OPT, just bought a 1995 Polaris Scrambler 400 to restore.

Here is the current problem: It initially had no spark, I tested the stator and everything tested out fine. When I reconnected the stator connections, it had a great spark for about 5 pulls then back to no spark. Just wondering if you have any insight for why it may have gotten spark for a 5 pulls? The gentlemen before me said it started when it wanted to and then would have no spark. I have seemed to replicate that, just trying to hone in on the problem part.

Going to try the following tonight to eliminate some common problems:
• Just pull the black ignition kill wire from the cdi to eliminate any problem that it might have in shorting out. There's no test on the cdi..
•Also pull the black wire from the reverse limiter module.

 

Yes pull the black wires one at a time on the cdi kill wire and reverse limiter wire to see if that's the problem,plus simple things like the emergency kill switch connector/pins or the control switch itself could be the problem.I've had to replace control switches because of erratic spark also. Plus a simple cleaning of the switch and harness contacts may be the solution.
