Default Counter balance oil problem...

I just bought a scrambler 400 that ran fine. I took it riding last weekend and noticed that it was harder to start afeter I had rode it a while. I got home and went to change the counter balance oil... nothing! I poured about 3.5 oz of 10w30 in it and when I started it back up it started smoking pretty bad, white smoke. I went back and drained the oil and noticed it was a redish color, almost like rusty. I changed the oil again and it was still smoking. I shut it off and left it alone. I not a mechanic and am new to two strokes. Any ideas? Bad seals or just needs to be changes or flushed a few times?

You will need to most likely have to replace the counter balancer and seals to the water pump.

Default oil

your inner crankshaft seal is bad.Letting oil in counter balance chamber be sucked in to the crankcase and burnt.

Item#4 is the 10mm drain plug, item #41 is the dip stick(located underneath the carb area) Takes 75ccs (little less than 3 ounces) of 30wt or 10w30 oil. Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse You can either fill it at the dip stick hole or at the front of the engine. Plug #27.

when i changed my counterbalance oil i first took off the airbox and used a long handle flat-head screw driver to unscrew the dipstick, then used a very long set of pliers to remove the dipstick, then used a long neck funnel to add the oil. good luck.
