I have a 00 or 01 Polaris Explorer 400 with a 2 stroke. Not 100% sure about the year, is why I listed both. Yesterday the chain kept popping off, and it is about done. Looking for the best chain and sprocket combo, and where to buy it at. Thanks.

 

You can start at ebay,plus just google chain and sprockets for your model.Several different places. Thanks, I saw that listing on ebay, but didn't know if it was of any quality. I went ahead and got it. For 68.95, I won't be out much if if only last a season. I went ahead and bought it.

 

Not a bad price considering oem parts would run $140 or more even at discounted sites such as Cycle Parts Warehouse.

Created a thread in Polaris named 1996 Polaris Magnum 425 4x4 that needed repaired. Please have a look.

 

Polaris Tech, I went to install that chain and sprocket kit today, and man, the chain seems to be a little short. There is no way that I can get enough slack to get the chain on the sprocket. Any advice or am I doing something wrong?

 

Check each individual link on the old chain versus the new one in the kit. The 2000 Explorer 400 called for a 78 link chain,the 2001 Explorer 400 called for a 76 link chain for some reason.Both years show using a 13 tooth front,36 tooth rear sprocket. Transmission mounts may have been different or something changed up to account for 2 less links..Haven't checked to see what may be the difference. If you have the same size sprockets in the kit and the same length chain,then also possible you don't have the rear bearing carrier loosened all the way back enough.Not a fan of using an extra master link,but may be one way if the chain is too short to be able to use it.Any cycle shop can help,just bring in the chain or master link to match it up.

 

That was the problem. I have a 78 link (2000) and the kit came with a 76 link RD chain. The seller lists the chain working for both quads. I have contacted him and am waiting for an aanswer. I really don't two master links in there if I can help it.
